To contribute and fight against climate change and its impacts, the IMO - International Maritime Organisation has announced new measures to increase vessel efficiency, reduce carbon intensity and decrease emissions of Green House Gas from international shipping.

The IMO, which is a specialised agency in the United Nations, is responsible for the safety and security of shipping and the prevention of marine and atmospheric pollution by ships. Through the introduction of new measures, IMO aims to reduce CO2 emissions by at least 40% by 2030 and 70% by 2050 compared to 2008 levels.
