Paper accreditation
We are committed to continuous improvement of the standard we operate and the products we manufacture.
Health, Safety & Environment
Visy’s Pulp and Paper division maintains certification to the following standards - ISO 9000 Quality Standards, AS 4801 Safety Systems and ISO 14001 Environmental Standards, to ensure we continually maintain a high focus on creating a safe working environment and we minimise the impact to the environment and communities in which we operate.
Quality
Our customers are important to us. Visy’s Pulp and Paper maintains certification to ISO 9001 Quality Standards to ensure we continually maintain a high level of product quality.
Visy and Sustainable Fibre Sourcing
Visy produces responsibly sourced recycled content and virgin papers for both local and export markets. This paper is the predominant input into the fibre packaging products we produce at our Board plants throughout Australia and New Zealand.
We're focused on promoting the rigour we place around fibre sourcing and the products we produce, whether it's through increased certification and further labelling or branding.
Forest Stewardship Council® Certified
FSC® C008345
Visy has successfully maintained Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain-of-Custody certification for our six Australian recycled paper operations since September 2009. This means paper produced by these mills is allowed to feature the widely recognised FSC Recycled logo and the FSC Mix logo for select Plasterboard products.
When a product bears the FSC Recycled logo, it means that the fibre used to make it comes from predominantly post-consumer sources, such as kerbside collections and commercial cardboard. Regular auditing by Visy ensures the origins of our recycled paper remains consistent with this certification.
Not only does FSC certification support the environmental integrity of Visy’s paper, it gives customers extra reassurance about what their products are made from.
FSC Chain of Custody standards ensure that Visy provides a link between the post-consumer and pre-consumer reclaimed fibre and the product into which it is manufactured, from the forest to the consumer, including all successive stages of processing, transformation, manufacturing and distribution.

Responsibly sourced kraft paper
We're committed to ensuring our fibre inputs are sourced from responsibly managed softwood plantations.
Our mill at Tumut uses plantation forest thinnings (Pulp Logs), and sawmill residues as inputs, to produce Kraft paper for both local and export markets.
Fibre suppliers who are not certified to an internationally recognised forest certification scheme are evaluated to ensure they comply with PEFC and FSC requirements (PEFC/21‐31‐195, FSC® C008345)*.
Visy intends to avoid controversial fibre sources including:
a) Illegally harvested Wood or trade in illegal forest products
b) Wood in violation of traditional and human rights
c) Wood sourced from areas where high conservation values are threatened
d) Wood from significant conversion of forests to plantations or non-forest use
e) Wood from trees that have been genetically modified
f) Wood in violation of any of the ILO Core Conventions As defined in the ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work.
*As stipulated in The Australian Standard® for Sustainable Forest Management (AS 4708), PEFC ST 2002:2020 and FSC-STD-40-005.
