Starting as a Dispatch Clerk and Pallet Controller at our board site in Dandenong in 2014, Nathan started his now 10 year journey with Visy.
He quickly shifted to a New Work Officer role. It brought Nathan closer to his studies in industrial design, making him responsible for processing artwork and designs for cardboard packaging. Here, he learnt to balance customer needs with operational requirements—laying the foundation for what was to come.
The leap to Continuous Improvement Manager marked a turning point.
“I led waste-reduction and efficiency projects that cut costs and boosted our sustainability.”
“During this time, I fell in love with operations, with a focus on problem solving and process improvement.”
In a subsequent Production Supervisor role, he managed teams in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
“I liked the fast paced environment where you’re making quick decisions and problem solving—two years in the role flew by.”
This experience led to a Logistics Manager role, where he managed a team of over 20, plus a departmental budget—building skills in leadership and financial management.
“Running a whole department really opened my eyes. It was a really good growth opportunity.”
“I was looking for a new challenge, so I moved to the state-of-the-art board facility in Truganina as Technical Manager. This customer-facing role reinforced the importance of strong partnerships between sales, production, and clients—ensuring safety and quality in every interaction.”
Nathan is now the Production Manager at Truganina, overseeing the end-to-end production process.
“I enjoy being more strategic, identifying how to improve processes and drive the business forward.”
“Working at Visy has given me strong career growth through opportunities I don’t think I’d get elsewhere. Regardless of the position, I’ve picked up transferable skills, like decision making, that have been useful in many of my roles. My breadth of experience means that I now make more holistic decisions which consider all aspects of the business.”
