Jolyna is a Senior Route Manager at Visy Global Forwarding, based in Singapore. She’s currently on assignment in Melbourne.
She procures ocean freight rates and container space for customers, ensuring competitive rates and reliable transportation of their goods.
She is the central point of contact for all ocean freight pricing matters from Asia to Australia, intra-Asia and Asia to India.
While she's in Melbourne, Jolyna is meeting with sales and visiting our sites to get first hand knowledge of their international shipping needs.
“It allows me to manage and coordinate pricing enquiries swiftly, which enhances our responsiveness and strengthens relationships with external customers and partners.”
She’s found management is flexible and approachable at Visy.
“Managers are flexible and promote work-life balance. You’re welcome to speak to managers non-hierarchically, allowing me to have conversations with directors and senior executives when I need to.”
The opportunity to go on assignment in another country provides professional and personal growth, says Jolyna.
“While Singapore is the headquarters for Visy Global Forwarding, we are away from Visy’s manufacturing operations. I’ve had the chance to see how materials we have transported are used to produce ours and our customers’ products.”
“On top of that, it’s a chance to brush up on my communications skills while I am exposed to people with different backgrounds and cultures. In the current world where globalisation is the key, this is an important asset to strive for better results and be connected with others.”
“While in terms of the personal aspect, this opportunity granted to me has pushed me out of my comfort zone which requires me to adapt to changes. I am now required to be more independent and confident in my decisions as I am responsible for them.”
Despite the challenges, Jolyna says it’s worth it.
