Greg, a fitter and turner, repairs and maintains the equipment used to make glass bottles at our South Brisbane glass manufacturing facility. The facility makes bottles for Australian beverage brands, including the iconic Bundaberg Ginger Beer bottle, which Greg says is his favourite soft drink.
“That stuff is nectar to me!”
But this isn’t the reason why he joined Visy.
“I joined the Visy team because I wanted good work life balance. During the recruitment process it became clear that Visy respected and empowered its work force.”
“You get out of a job what you put into it and I feel like Visy has a lot to give. If you want to work somewhere that respects its workers and enables them to do their best work, Visy does that.”
He says the culture at Visy made the transition into his role easy.
“As an army veteran I have worked in a structured and disciplined organisation most of my working career.”
“I enjoy working in small teams but I also like being a part of the bigger team. The kindness, respect and acceptance of the Visy workers throughout the site has been awesome, smiles and waves from people I’ve never met or met once as everyone goes about their working day.”
“The team at Visy is awesome, a diverse group of people with a diverse skill set. Any question put to the group is answered effectively and intelligently.”
Beyond the culture, Greg has learnt a lot about the bottle making process.
“I’ve also learnt that my skills as a tradesperson make a difference to the quality of the product.”
